The Yankees have been blissfully (for me at least) behind in the division and wild card races all season. Now they’re only a half game out of each race. David Schoenfield of ESPN.com fame gives all the credit to (drumroll please) Aaron Small. That’s right, the guy who got the win recently, without qualifying for a quality start.
But my favorite line of the whole story is when Schoenfield writes: “You know how many pitchers in the long and sordid history of baseball have won at least nine games without a loss? Antonio Alfonseca can count them on one hand.” Then he lists 6 pitchers. Yes, Alf has 6 fingers.
