Two very fine lines, prompted by the White Sox’s championship.
From a CTA employee and Sox fan at the Addison Brown Line stop, a message on a piece of cardboard by the exit turnstile read, “Sox have World Series trophy, Cubs have Ronnie Woo Woo.” To fully appreciate how funny and clever this is, learn about Ronnie “Woo Woo” Wickers here.
On a more optimistic bent, my father-in-law-to-be sent an e-mail that said, among other things, “The Red Sox last year and the White Sox this year, have broken the streak and curse; next year it will be the year of the Cubs…with a break here and there and no injuries, they may finally do it… If you build it, it (Victory) will come.”
It’s nice to know I’m marrying into a family that not only can paraphrase from Field of Dreams, but also spreads optimism for my hometown team.
