MTMT had his well baby checkup yesterday and it confirmed what we’ve already figured out: he’s LONG and lean. He checked in at the above-average length of 25.75″ and the below-average weight of 14 pounds, 4 ounces. Both are totally within the range of normal, but it’s kind of nice to see on the growth chart that when everybody says he’s long, he really is! The pediatrician was also impressed with his leg strength as no sooner did we put him on the large exam table did he practically propel himself off it.

MTMT’s sleeping habits have also been funny of late. He will go at least 12 hours – “waking up” a couple times to eat – but even when we have gotten that time span to be from 8:30 to 8:30 he keeps changing it to 10:30 or 11 until 10:30 or 11. Not that we’re really complaining, but it’s been interesting to have baby-free mornings! In the photo above you can see what he’ll often do once we are both up, as well. Normally he’ll lay the length of the bed, the same way any of us would, but in the morning MTMT often tosses and turns, twists and sleeps, and finds new positions. One morning as we went to check on him he had turned 90 degrees and cozied (cuddled!) up to the pillows. From the other angle you can see his face is nowhere near buried in the pillow.

We’re also happy to note that our son has decided he can put himself to sleep far more often now. If he needs to nap or sleep, he’ll often take care of it himself now. We had been holding and walking with him more to get him to sleep, but didn’t want to form that as a habit, so we would let him lay down and fuss a while (not cry). And before we knew it he would be happily playing or talking and then just be out.

The pool continues to be one of our favourite places. Hard to say who loves it more, really, and so we’re excited to start a more formal class in September at the YMCA. But we, of course, also love “talking” with MTMT as he loves making all sorts of noises. Lately, his favourite is to stick out his tongue and make “farting” noises by blowing through his lips (with and without his tongue out). And if Niagara Falls ever starts to dry up, the drool that comes out of our son’s mouth could fill it right up.

At this point, for all the updates we have, it’s safe to say they’re all very cute.

Right before we left for Europe in May a pipe in the wall carrying water away from our sink sprung a leak, soaking our downstairs neighbor’s bedroom. Literally the night before we left. Fortunately it had nothing to do with us and we weren’t needed during the repair work so by the time we got home it was taken care of.

Naturally, as we prepare to go to Toronto (while both of our workplaces have been very stressful and we get ready for classes to begin), our oven has decided to stop working. Kind of bad news when we planned to do a frozen pizza. And this one isn’t likely to be resolved by the time we’re home, although the landlord is already talking about just replacing it. To which we say, hooooray!! We could use the upgrade.

So perhaps despite this spectacular timing there is a silver lining. After all, I wouldn’t mind an oven that told me what temp it was or burners with more fine control than off, barely on, mostly on, all the way on.

j. and I are going to Toronto for the rest of this week, and won’t be back until Labour Day…

We are packed (mostly) but boy, are we ever a stressed out pair.

I’ve got deadlines for work nipping at my ankles, so I am taking work with me. We even got a nifty car charger for my Mac so I could work during the drive to the Big Smoke. If that doesn’t stress you to read what I am doing to meet my deadlines, then maybe you should take my job :)

j. is so deliriously tired he just walked in to ask, “Is there anything else I was going to do tonight?”

I don’t know the full story, but I will hear it on the car ride. Apparently work has been stressful and exhausting for him the past week or so. It certainly can’t help that I am losing my grip on things and holed up trying to get things done every spare minute I have.

To top it off this evening has been less than fun. I spilled a whole glass of limeade all over the coffee table, carpet and sofa right as I was putting down the leftovers I had heated up to eat. j. decided to go with a frozen pizza for dinner, and that’s exactly when the oven decided to stop working (he cooked it up in batches in the toaster oven instead and then kicked himself for not thinking of putting the pizza on the bbq). j. called to fill in the landlord on the status of our not-so-hot oven. And then while I had a minor freak out about something at work and made a few quick phone calls to get it straightened out, there was confusion about whether the landlord had keys to get into our apartment to inspect the oven while we are gone. And somehow that confusion lead to me asking whether j. had told the landlord we had replaced the shower head and sent him a rent cheque with the receipt. He looked at me blankly when he realized he hadn’t. To top it off, j. still hadn’t gotten to the part of the evening where he was going to buzz his hair and vacuum up the mounds of dog hair (we dog sat Quita, our former upstairs neighbours’ fluffy and shedding dog this weekend) we were wading in. He got to these last parts of his to do list about 9 pm, only 2.5 hours after we got home.

Now, after a hair cut and sweating to the oldies as he vacuumed, he has taken a shower and looks a little more refreshed and put together. I should be working but took a break to back up my hard drive and wonder about the wedding planning we will do in Toronto and also, how does someone stop feeling so discombobulated (sp?)?

At least j. realized, oops he hadn’t packed any boxers yet. And we both agree maybe the outcome of this strange and terrible stressed out night may be that we’ll come home to a new stove after Labour Day weekend.
